Well I’m about a month late and a few adventures behind, but my team and I have been in Chichicastenango, Guatemala since the beginning of March. We have partnered with a local ministry called New Generations. Our host, Juan, and his family have been such a joy to serve alongside. Their heart to share and spread the love of Jesus with the people and the community is beautiful and evident in every way they serve.

We started our time here in a 10-day quarantine. Which ended up becoming a 20-day quarantine because…

 I got COVID.

I am doing really good now. My symptoms never got super bad. The worst and most bizarre has been my loss of taste and smell (which are slowly starting to come back).

I’m not going to go into too much detail- I’ve got a whole different blog post for that- but I went into isolation and the other 13 people on base with us continued in quarantine.

Also, praising God, no one else got sick.

After quarantine, we were all super ready to jump in ministry outside the base. Our first day of ministry gave us the opportunity to hand out bread to people in the city, alongside the police. Yes, the police. Juan, has an amazing relationship with the police here in Chichi. We were also able to play soccer with them later that afternoon.

We have been able to do a lot for the police and a few weeks ago we had the opportunity to put on a small church service for them with some worship- all in Spanish- and a short message form 2 of my squad-mates. Afterwards, we all sat down to have lunch together and attempted to have conversations in our broken Spanish. We shared a lot of laughs at our own attempts to communicate.

Sharing with the police has opened some doors to an incredible opportunity for THIS WEEKEND.

***Pray for the Lord to surround us and the spaces and places we will be in to share His word and His glory****

My team and I are looking forward to these next 3 weeks of being able to serve in the community and all the Lord has in store for us.
