(-Note: these blogs are definitely not coming out as quick as I would like so there is a bit of a delay)

These last 12 days in Jaco have been both restful and overwhelming. We start the day pretty early. Im up around 6:30am to get in a little workout or to stretch or just to take a moment to reflect. From 7a-8a we have quiet time. There is usually a slow trickle of people rising from bed (sometimes more like dragging), settling with a cup of coffee and their bible to start the day with God. 8a-8:40ish is breakfast, then clean-up and stretch.

9am we have a devo with an elder from the local church we will have the opportunity to begin serving at starting tomorrow. And let me just say… WOW… every single morning- well almost every morning (tues-fri) …

We have heard about everything from healing to spiritual warfare.  Each morning has been so different and spirit led… it has been such a beautiful thing to be a part of.

Our days have been loaded with serving the community in so many different ways. We have cleaned rooms, painted walls, scrubbed walls, cleaned up construction debris, learned to cook from locals, cleaned parks, done prayer walks and ultimately embraced the beach life.

Out of all of this, I think one of my favorite things has been being unplugged. At our base we do not have wifi. And I love it… most days. It was definitely an adjustment remembering that no notifications were going to be coming through. I couldn’t open Insta or Facebook when I didn’t feel like being in a conversation. Living unplugged has changed the way my days go. I don’t start by spending 10, 20… 60 minutes scrolling through social media and I now don’t end my day that way either. I wake up and I get up, I get in bed at night and go to bed.

Now obviously we are not completely off the grid… cause well…. You’re reading this…. Duh ??

But if I need an internet connection for something, I have to ask myself if I really want it and see how much I have to get done, because if I’m going, I plan to be there for at least 2 hours – It’s a pain to lug all my stuff there and back for just a short while.

Our day-to-day is finally beginning to take shape, but knowing my mornings are completely disconnected is such a pleasant start I honestly don’t mind being so disconnected

Until we get thrown our next curveball

this week…

We welcomed 19 World Race semester participants to the base! Bringing the total number of people on base to 54.

One response to “Unplugged”

  1. I love that you’re unplugged. It’s something that I wish our family would be able to do and even society. I miss striking up conversations with random people at the grocery store or even a doctors office. I look forward to your updates and can’t wait to read the next one!
